It was our privilege to be invited to the Holladay Chamber of Commerce luncheon last Tuesday, October 8, to honor one of our students. We have so many wonderful students attending Oakwood Elementary, but we were asked to select an “Outstanding Student” and immediately Jacob, one of our sixth graders, came to mind. We had the opportunity to share with an audience of approximately 40 community members, and his proud family, how Jacob became our HERO at Oakwood Elementary.
We related the incident that occurred few weeks ago after school when Jacob, who is a member of our Safety Patrol, was at his post at the crosswalk in front of the building. As he was guiding students across the parking lot, he noticed a vehicle that continued to move into the crosswalk, ignoring Jacob’s waving orange flag. Jacob reacted quickly and pulled a small student out of the car’s path avoiding serious injury or accident. We are very proud of his alertness and quick actions.
We also shared some personal information about Jacob – how he is a math whiz, loves anything to do with basketball, enjoys playing trivia games with his dad, and fishing with his grandpa.
We are so pleased the Holladay Chamber of Commerce partners with local schools to support and honor the education of our students.
