Tears and smiles were intermingled at Sixth Grade Promotion – always a bitter sweet happening. The students were dressed in their finest. The boys looked so grown up and handsome in their suits and ties! Not to be outdone, the girls were a colorful bouquet in their spring dresses. The auditorium was filled to capacity as parents, grandparents, and other relatives and friends attended the program.
The Hope of America award was presented by the Kiwanis Club to three outstanding students – Michael Campbell, Marissa Whitmer, and Kiana Vandez. Speeches were given by Sam Woodward, Lizzie Pinegar, Marissa Whitmer, Zachary Passey, Michael Campbell, Claire Peterson, and Amara Faeber. It was interesting to hear them relate all the changes that have taken place in our world since this graduating class started school in 2007.
The highlight of the promotion was a slide show comparing each student’s baby picture with a current photo. Laughter and “Ah-h-h’s” filled the auditorium as the slides were projected. We want to thank Mrs. Whitmer for the hours of volunteer time she spent putting this memorable presentation together. She also presented a keepsake CD to each graduate.
We have the best students here at Oakwood and we will greatly miss our wonderful Sixth Graders. We know they will have a great year ahead of them as they begin their journey through junior high. We feel confident they were well-prepared during their stay at Oakwood.
Congratulations and Best Wishes from all of us!
