014-15 Reflections Theme: “The World Would Be
A Better Place If…”
Reflect on the theme. Create original work. Be recognized.
Dear Oakwood Parents and Students,
We are happy to announce the 2014-15 Reflections theme and begin our annual Reflections Program. This PTA sponsored program is designed to enhance quality arts education for students in Pre-K through grade 6. Reflections provides opportunities for students to express themselves and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts. As participants in the programs, students are encouraged to create works in the following art categories:
1. Literature: works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, etc.
2. Music: voice, instrument or combination
3. Photography: black and white, color, single or group images, etc.
4. Visual Arts: print, drawing, painting, collage, metal etching, etc.
5. Dance: dance composition works recorded on VHS or DVD.
6. Film/Video: animation, narrative, documentary, etc.
7. 3D: sculpture, ceramics, dioramas, mobiles, etc.
Works are judged by a committee based on participants grade level. Groups are as follows: K-2, 3-5, and 6. In an effort to conserve paper we ask that you print the information your student needs at utahpta.org. Click on “Reflections” under “PTA Programs.” Please print the forms needed under “Student Entry Form, Consent Form and Guidelines.” At utahpta.org you will find the category rules, entry form, and media release. Please make sure to follow all of the participation rules and fill out the entry and media release forms completely. Students are welcome to enter as many works as they wish, but are limited to one entry per category.
The deadline for entries is October 21. If your student is required by his or her teacher to participate, projects are due on October 20 in the classroom. All other participating students should bring their entry to the PTA room, before school on October 21, between 8:30-9 am.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Reflections chairperson: Kelsey Nichols at 801-706-5039
kelseyanichols@gmail.com
Everyone who enters receives a small prize.
