Kindergarten Enrollment FAQs

January 25, 2023E. BaileySchool Happenings

Oakwood Elementary is NOW ENROLLING students for 2023-24 Kindergarten Classes. Here are some frequently asked questions that we want to answer for you 😊

1. What age must my child be to enroll for next year and how do I enroll?

Answer: A student must be 5 years old by September 1, 2023. Visit the main office during normal business hours to enroll. Visit our school’s webpage for information @ Kindergarten Registration

2. What if I don’t know if I want my child in All Day or Half Day kindergarten?

Answer: You are not alone. There are many families still trying to figure this out. When you enroll your student you won’t need to give a definite answer. When we hold our Kindergarten Orientation on May 18th, you can then notify the school of your preferences.

3. Will there be All Day Kindergarten next year and if so, how many classes?

Answer: We are so lucky to have received a grant from the State of Utah to begin holding All Day Kindergarten. We won’t know how many All Day Kindergarten classes we will have till closer to our orientation on May 18th. It all depends on the number of students enrolled to attend Oakwood’s Kindergarten. Please enroll now!

4. Which teachers will be teaching which classes?

Answer: This is why it is so important to enroll by FEBRUARY 3RD. The District determines how many teachers we get for kindergarten based on student enrollments. We want to know if you are planning to attend Oakwood so that we can get the best teachers for our students. You will learn on May 18th which teachers will be teaching which classes.

5. When is Kindergarten KEEP testing that all incoming kindergarten students need to take?

Answer: August 2, 3, 4 (set by the District)
*Placement of students into All Day Kinder and Half Day kindergarten are based on KEEP scores, in boundary students preferences, then out of boundary student preferences. If your student doesn’t take the KEEP test, then your student will be placed in open spots in either All Day or half day. Please plan to be in town on these days to take the test. Parents will sign up for a time slot on May 18th at Kindergarten Orientation.

6. When is Kindergarten Orientation?

Answer: Thursday, May 18th from 1pm – 2pm. Both student and parent are invited to attend.

7. How do I find out if I am in the Oakwood Boundaries for next school year?

Answer: Please visit this link and type in your mailing address.

If you are out of boundaries, but still want to join our amazing school then complete an open enrollment application by February 3rd. There are limit spots open for next school year so don’t delay, apply today at
