Hello Oakwood Owls,
This is Principal Luther, and I wanted to talk to you today about having toys and Pokémon cards at school.
Believe it or not, I was a kid once too, and there was nothing I loved more than my trading cards. In fact, I still have a few of them to this day! I remember how much fun it was to bring my cards to school, show them to my friends, and even trade a few. However, while this can be a fun experience, we’ve noticed that cards and toys are starting to become a distraction on the playground and in the classroom.
Owls, your parents expect that I do everything I can to support a healthy learning environment. While Pokémon cards and other small toys are fun to enjoy at home, they can take our focus away from learning at school.
After discussing this with our wonderful teachers, I am asking that we keep all trading cards and other small toys at home. This does not include bringing a sports ball from home to play with at recess. Teachers may allow a student to bring an item for a specific class activity, like show and tell, but this will be on a case-by-case basis, and the teacher will regulate its use during school hours. If a student does bring these items to school, they must remain in their backpack or another secure location.
Parents, please note that the school is not responsible for or obligated to investigate personal items brought from home that are lost or stolen.
I love you, Owls, and I want to make sure we keep your prized possessions safe at home!
