Miss Erika invited Great Basin Wildlife Rescue to bring two beautiful OWLS as live models for our 5th grade students to draw. “Moonstone” a barn owl, and “Digger” a burrowing owl made today’s art lesson unforgettable!

Practice writing secret messages using invisible ink. Invisible ink was a popular spy tool during the American Revolution. James Jay, a dedicated patriot, invented it. Writing code was very common. Paul Revere’s wife, Rachel, often wrote to to her patriot husband using secret codes.

Mrs. Frandsen’s 6th graders took their final steps in Egyptology today. Students removed their chickens from salt (they changed salt 3Xs over the last few months) then sprinkled them with a cinnamon and clove mixture. The chickens were wrapped in gauze then placed in a sarcophagus with important items for the afterlife. Students carried them in a funeral procession to the final resting ground.

Mrs. Luka’s class and Mrs. Baggett’s class participated in the national event “Hour of Code” December 11, 2014. Students were introduced to block-based coding and a little bit of JavaScript, the world’s most widely used coding language. Even top universities teach block-based coding (e.g., Berkeley, Harvard) when students are starting out. Starting early can only benefit students in this high demand job market.
