These awards are provided by our generous community members and are only available to current Olympus High School seniors (Class of 2024). All awards are valued at $500 or more. However, the amount awarded is at the full discretion of the donor.
If you plan to apply for any of the Olympus-Only scholarships you are committing to attend TWO MANDATORY EVENTS:
- May 13th – Senior Recognition Night
- Recipients of the Olympus-Only scholarships will be revealed and honored on stage during this event. Scholarship donors will be in attendance and presenting the awards to the recipients.
- May 14th – Olympus-Only scholarship recipient picture
- Recipients of Olympus-Only scholarships will be required to report to the main gym at 8:00am for a group picture.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE for all Olympus-Only Scholarships is March 29 at 3:00pm. (NO EXCEPTIONS!!)
Scholarships | Criteria |
Advanced Graphics | The Olympus Graphics Department recognizes a senior that has been involved in the graphics program. A portfolio is required. |
Bengtzen Family Legacy | The Bengtzen Family would like to award two graduating seniors who have been accepted to a Trade School, 2-year College, or 4-year University. No GPA, CPA or ACT requirement. Essays and Videos will be accepted and winners will be determined based on content of submissions. |
Chamberlain Swimming | The Chamberlain Family has been long time members and supporters of the Olympus Swim Team. They will award two scholarships to a deserving male and female member of the Olympus High Swim Team, who have a positive attitude and are dedicated to the betterment of the team. Candidates must have lettered in swimming, have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, and plan on attending college. |
Christensen Concerto | Graduating senior who participated in Concerto Night and shows outstanding talent in the area of instrumental music. Recommendation by Mr. McMurray/Mr. Graff. |
Christensen Visual Arts | Senior who shows outstanding talent in the area of visual arts. Recommendation by Mr. Petersen/Ms. Coxworth. |
Claire Driggs Family | Claire Driggs was diagnosed with leukemia the beginning of her 9th grade year and battled her disease for 28 months. In 2015, just a month after her graduation from Olympus, she found out that her cancer had returned. Her battle continued as she received a bone marrow transplant with her younger sister as her donor. Claire is the 4th of 6 siblings to graduate from Olympus. This scholarship will be awarded to a senior who is a survivor of childhood cancer, or the sibling of someone who battled childhood cancer, recognizing that it is truly a family disease. The Driggs Family will select the recipient. |
Cornelius / Ellingson | The Cornelius / Ellingson scholarship wishes to reward three deserving Olympus High School students with a $1,000 scholarship. |
Counselors’ Choice | These scholarship awards are given by the Olympus Counselors to a deserving male and female student who have shown growth and improvement during their three years at Olympus. |
David Fairbourn is a member of the Olympus High School Class of 1967 who feels a good education is the ingredient to success. This scholarship is for a senior student at the top of their graduating class, who has a high ACT score and can show a special need for a scholarship. The student must provide proof of acceptance to a college or university, have an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math, along with a strong desire to achieve. | |
Dixie C. West Memorial | This scholarship is given to a graduating senior who has participated in Family and Consumer Science classes. Dixie West was a person who valued education and was always willing to give her resources to help those in need attain higher education. The West family will select the recipient based upon the written questions, having demonstrated good effort in academics and citizenship, but not necessarily a straight “A” student. |
Friend-2-Friend | This scholarship is given to a graduating senior who has volunteered their time with Friend-2-Friend by serving others, building friendships, and empowering those around them with compassion, integrity and gratitude. This scholarship is made possible by generous donations from friends of Friend-2-Friend. |
George and Ray Barton Honor Award | This scholarship award is in memory of George Barton and in honor of his son, Ray Barton. It is awarded to an outstanding student who will be attending college out of state. |
Holladay Water | Donated by the Holladay Water Company. This award is for a senior with good academics and citizenship, and focused on attending an accredited Utah trade or vocational college to study plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, welding or other related trade. Student must live in the Holladay Water Company’s service boundary. |
Holladay City | This scholarship will be based upon academic achievement, leadership and service to the school or community. Preference given to students who reside in Holladay. Children and grandchildren of Holladay elected officials and Holladay City Manager are not eligible for this award. |
Jaime Firmino DePaula “ESL” |
This scholarship is named in honor of Jaime Firmino DePaula, an immigrant from Brazil. He and his family lived for several years in the Millcreek area and his sister in law attended Olympus. He worked as a computer specialist and he and his wife Norma raised four very capable children. He passed away from cancer in early 2017. More information about his remarkable life can be found on the youtube video “My dad escaped prison to be with me” narrated by his daughter Emily. Male students currently in Olympus High’s ESL program are encouraged to apply. |
Nelly Fernandez Johnston “ESL” |
This scholarship is named in honor of Nelly Fernandez Johnston. She graduated from high school at age 15 in Paramonga, Peru and moved to Lima with her family. At age 22, Nelly moved to Venezuela where she worked in various office jobs, interrupted by an LDS mission to Maracaibo, Venezuela at the age of 26. Nelly taught Spanish for many years at East High, but her true loyalty was always to Olympus High School where her 3 children studied and graduated. She loved this country and the opportunities it gave her and her children which she felt were not available to ordinary people in Peru or Venezuela. Nelly had an astonishing range of close friends from different countries, languages, religions, ages, and backgrounds. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer early in 2019 and courageously and optimistically continued to live life to the fullest until she passed away at home on November 28th, 2020. Female students currently in Olympus High’s ESL program are encouraged to apply. |
Norma DePaula ESL Scholarship |
This scholarship is dedicated to students who have learned English as Second Language encouraging and recognizing the determination and accomplishments of those navigating diverse linguistic and cultural landscapes. Female student in the Olympus High ESL program are encouraged to apply. |
Just the Two of Us: Kate Moss Education Scholarship |
The Kate Moss Education Scholarship bloomed out of great love and gratitude from Kate’s mother, Cheryl, a working single mom. Raising a child as a single parent wouldn’t have been possible without the support and great care of the teachers, business owners & neighbors of the Holladay community who helped shape and nurture Kate’s dream of going to college. Kate & Cheryl strongly believe in paying it forward and passing this gift on to future scholars of single parents in hopes that they too will know they are supported and never alone in their journey to fulfill their dreams. Together we can achieve! |
Kind Titan | In recognition of Titans who have demonstrated an extraordinary level of kindness during their enrollment at Olympus High. Students must be nominated for this award by other Olympus High students. |
Larry Stillman graduated from Olympus in 1958. He loved Olympus High School and remembered his senior year as one of his greatest; giving him both life-long friends and the basis for a successful business career. During his lifetime, Larry recognized many outstanding educators at Olympus through the Catalyst award which he sponsored for the past 25 years. As part of Larry’s lasting legacy a new scholarship program has been created to support Olympus seniors. The Larry B. Stillman memorial scholarship will award $2,500 to a student with a demonstrated interest in entrepreneurship. Strong consideration will be give to academic accomplishment, business innovation, and the ability to overcome obstacles. | |
The Louie J. Long scholarship is available to any student athlete who is interested in pursuing a career in education. The scholarship will take into consideration any individual who has an outstanding sense of character, persistence, and integrity. Those wishing to apply should write a brief letter sharing with the selection committee how they have displayed these attributes in their lives and those they have served. Experience in coaching or working with youth will be strongly considered. | |
Make it Happen | The Make it Happen scholarship is for a graduating senior with a goal they would like to achieve. |
Mark Manning Memorial First Generation | Given by the Olympus Foundation to a graduating senior who is the FIRST in their family to attend a college or university. |
Mark Manning Titan Pride | Mark Manning was an Olympus High School Alumni, Vice Principal, and Principal who had a deep love for the students of Olympus High School and saw great potential in every student who walked Olympus’ halls. He enjoyed seeing students take pride in themselves and their community through participating in extra curricular and service oriented activities. In Mark’s eyes, every student had the potential to do amazing things regardless of what their passions may have been. Mark’s philosophy was that all extracurricular activities were important and provided opportunities for students to develop attributes that allow them to better serve the community. This scholarship’s goal is to recognize a student who has taken pride in themselves and their community and shown that pride through participating in extra curricular and service oriented activities. The recipient will be selected by Mark’s family. |
Michael Bailey Memorial | Senior who is pursuing an Education degree or a Science degree at the University of Utah. Candidates must have a 3.0 GPA and been involved in a sport at Olympus High for a minimum of one season. Involvement can be as a player, manager, timer, score keeper or other support position. Candidate must also have community involvement through their church, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, or another service organization. |
Millcreek Promise Scholarship | The city of Millcreek will be offering scholarships to two Olympus High students in 2024! Students must be Millcreek residents to apply. Eligibility requirements are posted within the application. |
Olympus Foundation – Service | Given to a senior student who is very service oriented with a minimum of 100 hours of service OUTSIDE of school, but within Salt Lake County. |
Olympus Spirit | The winner of this award will be chosen by the Olympus High School Administration for showing school spirit, enthusiasm and leadership. |
Ormon Weight Memorial |
This scholarship award is given to a graduating senior who has excelled in musical performance at Olympus High School. Mr. Ormon Weight passed away at the age of 99. He had a great love for music and taught both primary and secondary levels. He organized the Granite Youth Symphony in 1957 and served for many years as the Granite District music supervisor. Additionally he helped raise several million dollars of funding for music in Utah’s public schools. Mr. Weight has inspired many students and members of our community through music and received the “Utah Outstanding Music Educator Award.” This scholarship in his honor, is offered to a senior student wanting to pursue musical studies at the collegiate level. |
Perschon Family Memorial |
This Perschon Family Memorial Scholarship is designated for a senior student that intends to seek a degree as teacher or as a health care professional. The ultimate purpose of this scholarship is to: 1) Assist a student in earning a teaching degree, with the hope that the recipient will be a positive influence, having a desire to expand the minds of the next generation, or 2) Assist a student in earning a degree in healthcare with the hope that the recipient will have a desire to comfort patients as well as their families in times of need. |
Senior Class Tribute | Senior who has good attendance, shows good effort in academics, citizenship and extra curricular activities, but not necessarily a straight “A” student. Senior class officers will determine the recipient. |
Shaeffer Family Scholarship | $2,000 will be awarded to a student with a parent who is currently a teacher or administrator (working at any school not necessarily Olympus High). Candidate should demonstrated a strong work ethic in school and in extra curricular activities, need assistance in paying for college, and be planning on attending BYU, the University of Utah, Utah Valley University or an out of state university. Angela and Dan Shaeffer’s parents were teachers as well as many of their siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles. |
Smiles for Life Foundation | This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who has exemplary experience in service and leadership. |
Sophie Rose Barton Memorial | Sophie Rose Barton, a vibrant and inspiring, Olympus student, passed away unexpectedly in the summer of 2010. At 17, Sophie, already an accomplished and gifted singer/songwriter, often volunteered at Primary Children’s Hospital, delighting and lifting the spirits of the young patients through music. She lit up what was most beautiful in everyone and everything around her. Her work continues through Sophie’s Place, special music therapy rooms dedicated to healing through music in children’s hospitals across the country. The Barton family honors recipients based on Sophie’s example of giving service and sharing talents. May your light, like hers, continue to shine. |
Stephanie Hopkins Memorial | She graduated from Olympus High School in 2013 and attended the University of Utah. She graduated in 2017 with a degree in International Health and 2019 with a bachelor of Science in Nursing. This scholarship is in memory of her and the service she participated in as a member of the Community of Caring program at Olympus High that jumpstarted her dedication of a lifelong commitment to service. |
Thunderbird SUU Alumni | Senior with a high GPA and CPA who is planning on attending Southern Utah University and shows financial need. |
Titan Achievement Award | For a graduating senior who has demonstrated excellence and leadership in the classroom, community, and as part of an Olympus High School team. This scholarship requires a separate essay of 500 words or fewer addressing why you believe you have earned this scholarship and how it will assist you in your collegiate pursuits. |
Waters Family Scholarship for the Performing Arts | Each of the four Waters children (Lauren, Alisa, Katie, and Michael) benefited greatly during their 3 years at Olympus High School through their participation in the performing arts. In return, the family wishes to award a $500 scholarship to one female and one male graduating senior who aspire to earn a degree in the performing arts, as well as meet the following qualifications: Minimum 2.5 GPA. A role in a school musical during both Junior and Senior year. Perform in either a vocal or instrumental group(s) during both Junior and Senior year. A letter from the applicant outlining their needs and qualifications for the scholarship. Letters of recommendation from vocal or instrumental teacher, as well as from the directors of the school plays. Payment to be made to the college/university of choice upon the student being accepted. The Waters family will review the documentation, and will select the recipients for the scholarships. |
Watts Family | This scholarship is meant to award those who have excelled in both Olympus High girls tennis and in their academics. |
Wilson Family Refugee | Due to the love and friendship we’ve received over the years from the refugee community in Salt Lake City, we are honored to give something back in return. We hope two Olympus High students who have come to Utah with their families and want to attend college can receive this scholarship to help defray the cost of tuition. |
