Hello Olympus Parents!

We had an incredible first week of school! Yes, it was only a couple of days, but it was SO nice to have our students back in the building. We are off to a great start and excited for all that is ahead this year!

This is our first parent newsletter of the year (PDF), and we have quite a few things to share!

Get Involved at Olympus!
We have a few open spots on our School Community Council. If you are interested in running, please complete the attached form and return it to our Main Office.

Our first PTA meeting is this Tuesday, August 18 at 1:00 p.m. in the Alumni Room. We would love to have you join us!

Coming Up at Olympus
Please take a few minutes to look through the information included with this newsletter. There is LOTS happening! A few highlights:

  • Picture Day — Tuesday & Wednesday during English classes
  • Senior Sunrise — Friday morning
  • After-School ACT Prep Class — information included
  • School Dance Schedule — get those dates on your calendar!

We are so excited for this school year and grateful for your support of our students, teachers, and Olympus High School.

Are you planning on traveling during the break?…

If you’re planning to travel outside of Utah and you want to keep your student account from getting disabled while you’re away, please submit a request to have your account added to the exception security list. No need to worry about this if you’re not going to use your student account on the break.


A request for a travel exception may be made by parents, students, or employees using
techhelp.graniteschools.org
Requests need to be made at least 2 business days before travelling outside of the
state.

As you have found out, noticed or read parents are no longer auto added to their students canvas accounts. Written instructions can found in the parent registration packet (on page 34!) Or here is a direct link.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO SIGN UP FOR THE OLYMPUS FOOD PANTRY?

The Olympus Food Pantry is a designated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The on-site Olympus Food Pantry at Olympus High School is available for food-insecure students and their families to come and sign up for a Fresh Food Weekend Bag.

Requirements:

Must be/have a student at one of the following schools:

    • Olympus High School

    • Evergreen Junior High

    • Olympus Junior High

    • Cottonwood Elementary

    • Rosecrest Elementary

    • Crestview Elementary

    • William Penn Elementary

    • Howard R. Driggs Elementary

Have your school social worker refer you, or come in and see if you qualify. The pantry is open when school is in session on Thursdays from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Parents and Canvas… Please read

Parents are the most important partner in their students’ success.  As a parent, you can follow your student’s progress and classroom responsibilities in Canvas.

Canvas is the online program used by teachers to assign homework, post information, schedule lessons, and proctor assessments.  Following your student on Canvas is the best way to know about your students progress, due dates, assignments, etc.  To access and observe your student(s) school Canvas account(s), parents must create a new account following the directions below.  The video link will provide easy step-by-step instructions that will walk you through getting the invite code for your student’s account and how to create a new parent/guardian account.
