Competition: wrestling singlet (issued by team), compression shirt (optional), sports bra, head gear, wrestling shoes (not issued by team).
Where can I buy wrestling shoes and head gear?
Most sporting goods stores sell them. You can also find them on Amazon.
Will we wrestle boys?
No. The women’s and the boys’ teams are separate. You will wrestle with your teammates and we will pair up according to size.
Can I wrestle if this is my first time?
Yes! We will teach you all of the basic moves and continue to help you refine/expand your skills throughout the season.
What if I cannot afford the fees?
We will do fundraising to assist with individual fees. You must participate in fundraising to receive funds toward your fees.
What will happen if I get injured while practicing or competing?
We have an Athletic Trainer who will do an initial evaluation of the injury and provide further instructions that must be followed prior to returning to practice or competitions.
Do I still attend practices and competitions if I am injured?
Most of the time, yes you will still attend and learn by observing. Depending on the injury, you may need to wait a period of time before returning.
What are the competitions called?
Competitions are typically called meets. Tournaments have multiple teams and all wrestlers will most likely have several matches (it depends on how many wrestlers are in their weight class). Duals are when our team wrestles another team. If the other team has wrestlers in our weight classes, we will wrestle.
What if there are several people in my weight class on our team?
For tournaments, everyone will wrestle. For duals, we will have wrestle-offs to see who earns the spot for our team in each weight class.
What are the weight classes?
Women’s wrestling has 14 different weight classes. We need wrestlers of all shapes and sizes. Wrestlers will compete at the following weight classes: 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 155, 170, 190, 235.
Will I need to cut weight.
No wrestler will be forced to cut weight. At the beginning of the season, we do hydration testing (to ensure wrestlers are properly hydrated) and complete our first weigh-in. Once this weight is logged, there is a safe weight management plan we will follow. It prevents wrestlers from cutting too much weight too fast and is very closely monitored. We weigh in before each competition. If the wrestler is not under or at their hydration testing weight (plus allowances that are given throughout the season +1 or 2 lbs.), they will wrestle at a higher weight class.
What are the rules of wrestling?
