Dear Oakridge and Churchill Patrons,
We apologize for the late night notice, but we wanted to alert you as soon as possible. You may have heard that a family and employee who works in our school community may have had exposure to a Utah Jazz player who has reportedly been recently diagnosed with COVID-19. Utah’s public health system is investigating this situation and working to determine if anyone locally may have had contact with any positive individuals when this player was experiencing symptoms. The Salt Lake County Health Department has not yet identified anyone at risk, but health officials assure us that they will be in contact with anyone they determine may have been exposed. Health officials have also confirmed that COVID-19 is unlikely to be transmitted by someone who does not have symptoms, so any interactions with this Jazz player before they were ill are considered low-risk interactions. There is NO evidence to suggest there is currently any risk to our students and staff.
While school is proceeding as normal, to help set our school community at ease, the District is taking additional precautions—beyond even the recommendations of public health—and will have the schools disinfected prior to the start of school tomorrow morning. This is in addition to the added cleaning and disinfecting protocols that have been in place for several weeks in all of our schools districtwide. We have procedures in place to address these concerns and want to reassure your community that in coordination with the Health Department and under their direction, we are doing everything that can be done to keep your children safe. Again, there is no reason to believe there is any risk to our students and staff and these measures are purely precautionary in nature.
Per previous communication on this topic, there has been NO community transmission confirmed in Salt Lake County at this time. Additionally, we would remind individuals who are experiencing symptoms of ANY illness to please stay home. We will continue to work closely with Health Officials from across the State to keep you up to date. Previous updates can be found on our website at www.graniteschools.org. Thanks for your support.
