Churchill families,
This week we will start our upcoming RISE testing. The main goal of testing this year is to understand what effect this past year of the pandemic has had on student learning. The RISE results will be available immediately and those results will be assessed to determine what supports and focus areas will be used to maximize student learning for the upcoming school year. Your student will receive a score when they complete the test. This immediate feedback is valuable to you and your student.
Distance learners have already started RISE testing on Friday’s. In person 8th grade students have also already completed the writing testing. Wednesday the 12th all in person learners will start testing (Schedule is at the bottom of this email). Please do all you can to keep your student at school during these days and times.
We have tried to create the best atmosphere possible for our students’ success. Please talk to your student about these expectations for testing:
- Students should try their best. Stress over testing is not our goal. These scores do not affect PBL scores.
- Please help your student get adequate sleep the night before testing and review with them your expectations regarding test anxiety and stress.
- May 12th- 18th students will be provided breakfast in the classroom. They will be allowed to eat this during the first ten minutes of the testing period to promote good brain activity.
- All students need to come with a physical book to class. After they have completed the test they will only be allowed to read a physical book (electronic books are not allowed) or draw on their scratch paper (the scratch paper must be left in class).
- The bell schedule was adjusted on testing days to move the 4th period after 5th. This allowed lunches to be served at a decent time.
- All students will go to their testing class regardless if they have opted out from testing. Students are not allowed to opt out after the testing period has started. This test is extremely important to understand student outcomes. We strongly encourage each student to take the test this year. Please call Mr. Hendricks if you have concerns about the test or need more information.
- Cell phones and electronic devices must be turned off and left in backpacks.
Chromebook Check in:
Chromebook check in is on the 27th. Please make sure that all personal stickers are off the Chromebooks. They need to bring their Chromebook and charging cable. In person learners will be returning them during 7th period and then receive a wristband to attend the PTA field day activities. Distance learners will be allowed to return their devices on the 28th from 8 to 12:00pm. Please go to the outside entrance to our library located on the North east side of our building.
