Churchill’s strength relies on our partnership with our families and community. We are honored to have strong leadership in our community council and PTA.
The PTA hosted our annual Reality town event for our 8th grade students. The goal of this activity is to promote how to survive in the real world. Students get a career and salary based on their current scores. This event was made possible by 47 volunteers. Please note, this did prevent most of our 8th grade students from writing their student goals this week.
The Churchill Community Council met this week and discussed several ways to support our students and families. Please see below for some of the items discussed.

Lockers
There were noticeable benefits to student learning when lockers were not used during Covid.
- The passing period between classes was shortened from 5 minutes to 4 minutes which gave students 21 hours more of instructional time during the school year.
- Calmer atmosphere during the passing period which equals less stress for all.
- Students did not congregate in the halls during the passing period.
- Very few students are in the halls during class time because they have everything with them.
- Having everything in one spot vs. two allows for better organization.
- Safety- Response time was quicker when students reported unsafe situations happening at school.
Teachers have met to discuss how to minimize the things students are required to carry in their backpacks for each class. We have two rooms available to students before school, at lunch, and after school where they can store items such as coats and lunches so they don’t have to carry them with them all day. Students participating in intramural sports or sports teams are able to use the PE locker room before school and after school to store their belongings for those activities.
Lockers may be issued upon special request. Contact Mr. Hendricks thendricks@graniteschools.org or Mr. Peterson at wcpeterson@graniteschools.org
Monthly Theme
Our theme this month is gratitude. The Churchill calming crew surveyed teachers for ideas to help with mental wellness and support. The crew put some items together and delivered a bag to each teacher. This made a great difference! Thanks to our calming crew for spreading gratitude.
