Please read below both for our Fun run and important information regarding RISE testing. There is a lot this week!
Fun Run
Holy katz today was a fun day. I could not be more proud of our students and community. Students ran or walked our annual 5k Fun Run that has been a tradition for over 25 years. Running has many analogies on how to live a strong life. We had one group of students that ended up missing a turn and ended up going an extra mile on the race. These students could have chosen to be really upset but instead chose to be positive and proud. I learned a valuable lesson with these students – the race just like life isn’t always fair but you stay positive and you make the best of any situation. Our wonderful PTA ran to the local store and made prizes for these students but what a great lesson. Thanks Chargers!
Our First and Second place winner in girl and boy categories received a backpack. Third place winners won a tub of Dubba Bubba. Extra mile winners received a bag with an assortment of candy and prizes. Prizes were also given for top students in each grade and 12 students were randomly selected for participating.

RISE testing
We will begin RISE testing on May 11th-
RISE test results are used to ensure we understand where your student is with their learning outcomes. This allows us to create the best system to ensure each student is being supported to their maximum potential. I wanted to take a moment so that you as parents and guardians are aware of our plan to encourage best effort and results from each student. Your encouragement makes a difference.
Testing will begin May 11th and go to May 19th (makeups the 20th and 23rd)–
Churchill tests every student at once to create the best space for testing. Please avoid checking students out during these times. Please also help them get adequate sleep and food. We are providing daily snacks for brain breaks these days.
Thursday the 28th-
You received instructions on Thursday on how to see your students’ growth goal. This shows your students previous RISE score and predicts where they should be able to score for this RISE test. Please use this as a conversation piece with your student..
May 2-6th-
Announcement time will focus on test taking tips and skills.
May 4th –
We want you to send a message to your students encouraging them to do well on RISE but also a shout out to all their learning this year. A message was sent Thursday with a link for you to complete a google form where you can send a message electronically which will be delivered the morning of the first test. You can do a handwritten letter if you choose. You will need to drop the letters off to the front office physically or mail it directly to the school before or on May 4th.
May 6th-
Last day to receive opt out requests. Please contact Mr. Hendricks to receive an opt out form. Students that opt out will receive an alternate assessment that will be graded.
