QUALIFICATIONS
Grades 7 and 8
- A 2.5 or higher cumulative PBL score for terms 2,3, and 4 of the previous school year.
- A 2.0 or higher citizenship score in every class for terms 2,3, and 4 of the previous school year.
- No F grades in any pass/fail class or class that counts toward high school credit.
Grades will determine eligibility. Teachers cannot be asked to change a grade/score from a previous year to alter student eligibility. If elected, ALL officers must maintain the above qualifications for their entire year of service as well as comply with the attached Standards for School Officers.
Grade 6
- All 6th grade students are eligible to run for office.
- If elected, all officers must maintain the same qualifications listed above for their entire year of service as well as comply with attached Standards for School Officers.
ADVERTISING
- Candidate may wear ONE article of school appropriate clothing denoting their candidacy.
- No handouts, banners, treats, stamps, badges, stickers, printed rulers, or anything similar.
ELECTION PROCESS (See attached calendar for dates)
- Submit online petition.
- List of eligible students will be posted in the office window.
- Eligible students submit an online digital (jpg or png file) poster with student name, picture, and grade.
- Online ballot with each candidate’s poster will be posted on the CANVAS page.
- Students vote for candidates in their grade through the Canvas Study-No credit class.
- Winners announced at Hello Day Assembly.

STANDARDS FOR SCHOOL OFFICERS
A Standards
- All school officers must perform all reasonable responsibilities assigned to them by their respective advisors or administration. Failure to do so may require placement on “informal” probation.
- All elected or appointed leaders must comply with all school rules. This includes but is not limited to the following:
- No possession or use of tobacco, alcohol, or drugs of any kind without a doctor’s order or written prescription. Violation can result in immediate dismissal from office.
- No threats of violence, fighting or vandalism at or during school. No violation of school or district drug and alcohol or safe school policies. Violation can result in immediate dismissal from office.
- No involvement in criminal activity at school or in the community.
- Compliance with school dress standards while in school and at all school functions.
- No intentional skipping of classes, excessive absences or tardies. Excessive tardies are considered 4 or more tardies in one class. The intentional skipping of class will not be tolerated and can result in immediate dismissal from office.
- Use acceptable language, model appropriate behavior and good manners in school and at all school functions.
- No suspensions from school for any reason. Suspensions result in “formal” probation or immediate dismissal from office.
- Maintain a 2.5 cumulative or higher PBL Score.
- Maintain a 2.0 or higher Citizenship Score in each class.
- No F grades in pass/fail classes or classes that count toward high school credit.
- All school officers should understand that freedom is not the right to do as you choose but rather the responsibility of choosing to do what is appropriate. All officers will:
- Be truthful in all they say, honest in all they do.
- Be courteous to others both inside and outside of school.
- Respect school property and other students by helping to keep the school clean and honoring the property and rights of others.
B. Probation
1. Formal or informal probation may be assigned by the advisor or administration.
2. Any officer who violates the above Eligibility and Standards Requirements will be placed on “formal” probation for one term.
3. Any officer on “formal” probation will not be allowed to function or participate as an officer for one term and will not participate in SBO class.
4. Advisors may also issue officers “informal” probation for minor misbehavior problems, dereliction of duty or insubordination. Informal probation can be issued as determined appropriate by the advisor or administration. Informal probation generally lasts no longer than two weeks for any one infraction. Officers placed on “informal” probation may not wear their uniform, cheer at games, conduct assemblies or participate in leadership class activities. Any officer placed on “informal” probation more than twice will be placed on “formal” probation.
C. Removal from Office
1. Any officer placed on “formal” probation more than once will be declared ineligible and removed from office for the rest of the school year.
2. Eligibility status will be determined by the advisor or administration according to the eligibility standards listed above.
3. The student body advisor will inform students and parents when removal from office is forthcoming and necessary.
Any student declared ineligible may appeal (in writing) to the administration.
