November 18, 2025General, News

Dear Granger High School Families,

We hope you are doing well. We are writing to share information about our updated attendance policy, which now includes lunch detention.  Lunch detention is designed to support students in building positive habits, improving attendance, and staying on track for academic success. Lunch Detention (LD) will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  Students who are assigned to lunch detention will receive notification in their school email the Friday before they are assigned to lunch detention.

During Lunch Detention, students will continue to have time to eat their lunch, and the focus of the session will be purposeful and supportive. Students will work on grade checks, graduation plans, and attendance recovery plans, ensuring that the time spent is productive and meaningful. Our goal is to help students stay accountable while also receiving guidance that directly contributes to their progress and readiness for graduation.

As part of the new standards, students are allowed:

  • Students are allowed five tardies per week.
    • Five or more tardies will result in Lunch Detention assigned for the following week.
  • Students who do not attend their assigned Lunch Detention sessions will receive a one-day overnight suspension.
  • Students are allowed one “Way Late” (TW) per week.
    • Two or more TWs will result in a Lunch Detention referral.
  • Students who regularly roam the hallway during class time may also be assigned to lunch detention

We appreciate your support as we work to encourage strong attendance, responsibility, and academic success. If you have any questions about this policy, please feel free to contact us. Together, we can ensure that every student at Granger High School has the tools and support they need to thrive.

Sincerely,
Dr. Jared G. Wright
