At Granger High School, we want every student to stay on track for graduation. Credit recovery is for students who have failed or are missing required credits and need an opportunity to make them up.

Credit recovery is especially important for seniors, but students in all grade levels should check their credits regularly and work with their counselor if they are behind.

How do I know if I need credit recovery?

Students may need credit recovery if they:

  • Failed a required class
  • Are missing credit toward graduation
  • Are behind in one or more graduation requirements
  • Have been told by their counselor or teacher that they need to recover credit
  • See missing credits in the GRAD tab in Focus

Students and families can check graduation progress by logging into Focus and reviewing the GRAD tab.

Talk to Your Counselor

Students should meet with their school counselor to review what credits are missing and decide the best credit recovery option.

Your counselor can help answer questions like:

  • What class or credit do I need to recover?
  • Is this credit required for graduation?
  • Can I recover the credit through summer credit recovery?
  • Do I need Granite Online?
  • What is my deadline?
  • How does this affect graduation eligibility?

Credit Recovery Expectations

Credit recovery is an opportunity to earn back missing credit, but students are still expected to complete the required work and show understanding of the material.

Students may be required to:

  • Complete assignments
  • Pass assessments
  • Retake failed tests, when allowed
  • Meet minimum proficiency requirements
  • Attend regularly
  • Follow all program deadlines

In some cases, students may be allowed to retest if they have failed a test, but they must meet the required proficiency level before credit can be awarded.

Seniors and Graduation

Seniors who are missing credits should take action right away. Missing credit can affect graduation and participation in graduation activities.

Seniors should:

  • Check the GRAD tab in Focus
  • Meet with their counselor
  • Complete required coursework by the deadline
  • Follow up with Mr. Ehounou or school administration if additional credit recovery support is needed

Students who wait until the last minute may not have enough time to complete all requirements.

What Families Can Do

Families can support students by:

  • Checking Focus regularly
  • Reviewing the GRAD tab with their student
  • Asking which credits still need to be completed
  • Helping students stay organized with deadlines
  • Encouraging students to attend and complete all required work
  • Contacting the school early if they have questions

The earlier students and families ask for help, the more options we may have available.

Need Help?

Students should contact their counselor if they are unsure what credits they need or how to get started.
