What is Volunteer For Good (VFG)?

Volunteer for Good is Utah’s statewide initiative that engages high school students in meaningful community service.

This program is designed to help students grow, lead, and thrive by making a positive impact in their communities.

Through this program, students:

  • Gain real‑world experience
  • Boost academic success
  • Strengthen civic engagement
  • Build social connections
  • Support mental well‑being

How Can VFG Help Me?

Get recognition for the work you do! Students can earn a certificate and graduation cord by logging a certain number of service hours.

Earn CPA Hours (this is a graduation requirement)!

  • 1 hour of service = 1 CPA hour
  • Students graduating in 2026 must have a CPA of a 2.0 or higher to walk at graduation.
    • You can earn CPA points by volunteering if you do not have a 2.0 or higher CPA. Please see your counselor and sign up for volunteer opportunities in the main office.
  • Students graduating in 2027 and subsequent classes must have a 3.0 or higher to walk at graduation.

What Counts as Service/Volunteering?

VFG broadly defines service as anything that you do that gives back to the community and you are NOT paid for it. VFG only considers service done within the state of Utah.

There are so many things that count as volunteering, you probably are doing something already.

Volunteering can be done anywhere (locally), it does not need to be done at school.

  • Still don’t know what counts? See examples of valid service (PDF)
  • Need ideas of where to volunteer at? See local organizations (Google Spreadsheet)

How to log your hours:

Go to Olympus Serves Site.

  • Register for the Opportunity:
    • Browse the available opportunities and find the one you’d like to participate in.
      • Click on the opportunity and Click “Sign Up”. This will register you for the opportunity.
  • Access Your Opportunities:
    • Click the dropdown arrow next to your name in the
      upper-right corner of the page.
    • From the menu, select “My Opportunities.”
  • Log Your Hours:
    • Find the opportunity you completed.
    • Click the red “Log Time” button.
  • Complete the Form:
    • Enter the total number of hours volunteered.
    • You do not need to worry about the start or end times.
    • Write a brief paragraph reflecting on your experience.
  • Save the Form:
    • On the next page, upload an image or supporting document to verify your participation (if needed.)

Still lost? View a visual step-by-step guide on how to log VFG hours (PDF).

How Do I Earn A Certificate & Cord?

-Earn a Certificate of Service by completing 25 hours of service during each year of high school. Make sure to log your hours by May 1st of each school year. Students can earn up to 4 certificates!

Graduation cord & Certificate Requirements:

25 hours per year = a certificate for that year

Class of 2030: 100 hours = Graduation Cord

Class of 2029: 100 hours = Graduation Cord

Class of 2028: 90 hours = Graduation Cord

Class of 2027: 65 hours = Graduation Cord

Hours must be logged by May 1st of their graduating year.
